Death

You are a heavy weight everyday
I try to escape, yet sometimes
I welcome you, too tired of running,
turning only to find you still there laughing
with your haunting eyes reaching out
to sink your skeletal claws
into my still warm skin
pulling me, pulling me
into your black
abyss.

*Day 16 of the 2010 April PAD Challenge. Today’s prompt: Write a death poem.
