Orlando

I remember when you were small
and inconsequential, spanning
the length and width of my back yard
with your sappy pines and heavy fruit
trees; your ditches ripe with mud pies.

But the hurricanes came and took with them
your simplicity, leaving nothing behind
but emptiness. So I left you, left a complicated
trail of lovers and friends, seeking to fill
the jagged cracks you left in the center

of my heart.

  1. we had a lot of trees destroyed in cyclones so I can really relate to that feeling of loss of plants but I sense there is much more in this poem – cylones in life…
