The Funeral

I awoke to the soft sound of sobs
wanting to ask why
everyone sounded so sad.

Immersed in thick, cushiony, comfort,
I could not open my eyes nor move
my lips.

Familiar voices spilled secrets
and tears, while the smell
of dirt and sweet roses

transformed to suffocating
airlessness and weightlessly
I descended

to maddening silence,
and despite my screams
the silence prevailed.

  1. I still remember the first time someone I knew died
You capture those feelings – I like the transformed to suffocating airlessness phrase the best…

  2. “to maddening silence,
    and despite my screams
    the silence prevailed”.

Have you seen the inside of my mind? I think you must have to enable you to write that.

    That just blew me away.
