Ignoring the Heart

You left the page empty
of words,
the ink curlicued from
mindlessness.

You kept running
in hopes that one day
somebody would say
you are a somebody but
nobody ever did.

You stood in your reflection,
saw the nothingness
beyond the skin and bones

let the liquid burn your
throat,
the smoke sting your
eyes,
the food fill the void
beneath your
heart.

Now the blank page is before
you,
your hands mimicking the
usual spirals
ignoring the words
crawling down your arms
readying their attack.

Will you mute them
again
or let them speak
freely
upon the page?
